SATURDAY EVENING
A2: Needlepoint 101: moderated by Susan Burris, Austin, Texas
This is the fifth year that we have taught this popular class to new shop owners. Susan has
developed a wonderful manual that covers many of the basics of how to get your shop organized
and running smoothly. She cover topics such as inventory, displays, classes, trunk shows and
newsletters, as well as gives out lots of tips on what new products retail customers are excited
about. This is an open discussion class, so not only will you leave the class with the wealth of
information Susan will be presenting, but you will have the opportunity to learn from fellow shop
owners and what they have found to be successful and what mistakes to avoid! This class is
open only to shop owners who have been in business for less than five years.
Susan Burris has taught both needlepoint classes and private lessons in the Austin area for
many years. She stitches, models, and writes stitch guides for Painted Pony Designs, as well as
assisting PPD at trade shows. She has also taught at TNNA.  Susan enjoys the challenge of
helping students select fibers, stitches and embellishments that turn a canvas into a work of
personal expression.
A3: Sit N' Stitch- this is not really a class, but just a fun event, where you can gather with other
market attendees to stitch and gab in a relaxed setting.  Take this opportunity to not spend
Saturday night alone, but come be among stitching friends, where there is no telling what
stitches, techniques, advice, and other tidbits you'll pick up along the way!
SUNDAY EVENING
B1: Kelly Clark- "Provence Santa"  taught by Frances Jue
Provence Santa sports dimensional stitching with silk ribbon and needle weaving. The
Santa holds a lavender wand stitched with a dimensional stitch. The basket of fruit and
the sunflowers made with the silk ribbon.

Frances has been doing needle art for over 40 years. Frances is a needlepoint shop
owner of 12 years and teaches biweekly workshop classes in her shop. Her love is
dimensional stitching. She has traveled to England and China taking classes and doing
research in the pursuit of her art.
B2: Denise DeRusha- Snowflake taught by Cynthia Thomas: Snow in Texas? Well,
sometimes- but  this is a snowflake that won't melt! Your students will love making this
glistening snowflake from Denise DeRusha surrounded by a dazzling array of stitches
chosen by Cynthia Thomas.  A variety of stitches and threads will be used to created this
5x 5 intermediate level project. Students should bring usual stitching supplies. Class
maximum of 12. Cynthia Thomas learned surface embroidery at the age of 6, quilting at 12
and began teaching needlework in high school. She has taught for the needlework
guilds and shops in Houston, Texas, at Destination Dallas and for TNNA. She is a member
of the American Needlepoint Gild, Embroiderers Guild of America and the The National
Needlearts Association. Currently, Cynthia has over 70 commercially available stitch
guides and has written hundreds of guides for Houston area stitchers.
B3: Canvasworks *Traditions "Little House" taught by Karen Lea

This adorable little canvas is of a house surrounded by trees and flowers. The piece has
been designed to use in a frame to hold house keys. This is a great project to take back
home and teach your customers!

Karen has taught  biweekly needlepoint workshop classes for the past 12 years and is
known for her wonderful borders.  Her love and passion for needlepoint is clear as she
works with each of her students. Her most recent national teaching endeavor was at the
2007 TNNA San Diego Trade Show.
B4:...and More- Spring Chick, taught by Julia Snyder
The class is a Spring Chicken designed by Share One's Ideas. One of four that you can
add to your Spring decor. You will stitch using the Merino Wool, Merino Silk, and seed
beads.  The best part of the class is learning how you can use the wonderful painting
that the designers give you by adding texture. This is also a fun class to see how open
canvas can enhance a canvas. You will learn 5 new stitches and also to sew on beads.
Class limited to 10 students.
Julia Snyder grew up in her local needlepoint store where her mother, Patsye Hardin,
worked. She has designed and taught classes for ANG, EGA, Needlepointers,
Destination Dallas Market, TNNA Market, judging at the State Fair of Texas for several
years, and been a part of the Beaus-Arts Auction at the Dallas Museum of Art. She has
been teaching for the past 12 years, since she and her mother opened Key Stitches.  
She has written 176 Amazing Stitches which features most of the stitches she uses on a
daily basis and includes facts that so many stitchers do not know or have forgotten.
Book 2 will be out in June 2007.
B5: Strictly Christmas-"Cowboy Ornament Snowman" taught by Betsy Grimes
This cute little western snowman sports a cowboy hat and sits on top of a brightly
painted ornament of jeweled reds and greens. In his hands he holds a bouquet of Texas
Bluebonnets. The perfect class for those students wanting to add a little western flair to
their Dallas Trip! Betsy is an award-winning needlpoint stitcher form the Dallas Area. She
most recently won Best in Show for her Strictly Christmas needlepoint stocking at the
Texas State Fair.
B6: Dream House Ventures- "Soy Luster Class- Amulet Bag" taught by Lynda Richardson
Learn the features and benefits as well as all the ways to use this lovely thread.
Beginning class in decorative needlepoint using Soy Luster thread. Designed by Lynda
Richardson of Elements, the Amulet Bag Design comes in 4 color ways. For the
Elements...Fire, Earth, Air or Water. You choose your favorite. When you are done, your
finished piece will make a great bag for around your neck to carry a bit of money and a
credit card or two. Great for those hands free shopping trips. Class is limited to 12
students.  Lynda is the owner of Dream House Ventures, Inc. and the designer of
Elements Fine Hand Painted Needlepoint. Lynda has been stitching for 45 years and
designing needlepoint for 30 plus years. Dream House Ventures is a needlepoint
distribution company representing 10 designers.
MONDAY MORNING SEMINAR
C1: Fiber Frenzy with Fabulous Finishing-led by John Waddell
John has looked around for what is new in thread options and will be talking and
giving suggestions and ideas for uses in this class. Questions will be welcomed and
we will see if we can all learn together. Bring your needles and scissors and we will
provide the rest. First 20 participants will get kits and the rest will be welcome to come
and listen and participate as well. John Waddell has stitched for over thirty-five years.
He has taught needlepoint for the past nine years, including the 2002 and 2003 ANG
National Seminars, at Calloway in 2004 and at several TNNA shows, as well as
co-teaching during a 2006 stitching cruise. He has served as Vice-President of The
National Embroidery Teachers Association.
